The short version
Where Am I? shows your iPhone's GPS readings: your position, altitude, ground speed, heading and signal strength. Your location is used on your phone to show those readings and is never sent to us. The app doesn't connect to the internet at all: we don't run servers, we don't have accounts, and there's no analytics or advertising.
Your location
- The app reads your location only while it's open on screen.
- If you turn on Show on Lock Screen in the app's Settings, it keeps reading your location while it's in the background, to keep the Live Activity up to date. iOS shows a blue location indicator while this happens. Turn the setting off, or close the app, to stop it.
- Your location is processed on your iPhone and is never sent to us or to any third party by the app.
What's stored on your phone
Where Am I? stores only your settings, such as units and coordinate format, on your iPhone. It doesn't keep a history of where you've been: your readings are shown and then discarded. Your settings are never sent to us or to any third party.
Snapshots
When you tap Save, the app creates an image and a text summary of your current readings on your phone and opens the iOS share sheet. They go only where you choose to save or send them. Remember that they contain your location.
On the Lock Screen
With Show on Lock Screen on, your speed, altitude and coordinates appear on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, where anyone who can see your phone can read them.
What we never collect
No analytics or advertising code runs in Where Am I?. The app doesn't send your location, contacts, phone number, email address, advertising identifier or device information anywhere, and it doesn't track you across other apps or websites.
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. We use these only to fix bugs. You can turn this off under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Location (While Using the App) | Required to show your position, altitude, speed and signal. Also used in the background only while Show on Lock Screen is on. |
| Add to Photos | Used only when you choose to save a snapshot to Photos. |
Deleting your data
- Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your phone.
- Snapshots you saved or sent elsewhere stay there until you delete them.
Children
We don't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Where Am I? handles your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Any change that affects your data will also be described in the app's release notes.
